What is the purpose to do acetylation of a hydroxy group in a drug?

Sometimes, chemists want to do the structure activity study. They replace a hydrogen group with an acetylation group. What is the purpose to do this? To change the charge? Thanks!

    I believe what your refering to is a “protecting group” it is used to protect a reactive functional group while another one is reacted.
